I’ve had this blog for the longest time, but I’ve never made any real attempts at using it. I’ve been waiting for the right “niche” idea to come along, and kept changing my mind, as the idea of one single topic or theme seems so restrictive to me. My mind switches channels quite frequently, and I enjoy wisping and breezing from one thought to another, sometimes committing them to posts, and usually causing me to have any number of browser windows open at once at any given time. So I suppose I’ll just throw thought spaghetti against the wall and see what sticks. Al dente!
For starters, I love music. It wasn’t until I started competing on SongPop2 that I came to the conclusion that the taste I thought was so eclectic is actually narrower than I realized. I tend to be drawn more to the past than the present, particularly songs and artists I grew up with in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. (90s and on represent my adulthood). Don’t even ask me to name any songs by Rhianna or Sia or anything created after 2000, especially if they’re Pop, Rap, R&B, or Country. But I’m also drawn to eras I wasn’t alive during, such as the Swing era, for example. Or old Blues. I also love music from other cultures, like Bossa Nova or Polynesian. Or New Age or Chill. It’s easier to list what I don’t like rather than what I do. I guess that could be considered eclectic, just not as wide as I thought.
I’d like the freedom to post song videos on here whenever the mood strikes, so that’s another reason for not restricting myself to one theme. Perhaps in time, once I’ve gotten into the habit of updating this, more focus might emerge. But for now, at first, I’ll leave it loose.
I’m listening to Janis Ian right now:
I’m enjoying the clarinet on “Bright Lights and Promises” (speaking of Swing era… in the mood, da daaaaa) .
I’ve also been teaching myself about graphic design and internet marketing. There’s so much free information out there, if one simply calls it up. It’s time-consuming, but I don’t mind. I enjoy learning how to work new programs, and although I don’t consider myself technically gifted, I am creative and artistic, with an aesthetic sense. So refining or putting together completed work works just fine for me. I’ve started with a shop on Spreadshirt.com, and yesterday I signed up to Zazzle. I plan on expanding as much as I can tolerate and keep up with. And once I figure this site out, I will be linking everything together to make my stuff available and visible. Or I might just try out a design for opinions, before uploading it.
That’s enough for now. I wanted at least one post completed, as it was getting a bit depressing and discouraging seeing an empty blog. I’m sure once I get the hang of it all, my content will improve. But for now, I gotta start somewhere!
